Top.gg alternatives for bots and servers: when votes stop being the right metric
Votes measure campaigning. For a bot that needs to be reliable or a server that needs to be alive, other metrics matter more. Where to list, and why both can coexist.
Top.gg is the default answer to "where do I list my bot", and for good reason: it has the audience, the vote webhooks and the review volume. The reason people search for alternatives is usually one of two things: a bot that is excellent but small, or a server that never wanted to run vote campaigns.
What votes reward
A vote system rewards whoever reminds their users to vote most effectively. That is a real skill and it correlates with popularity, but it says nothing about whether the bot answered its last thousand commands, and for a server it says nothing about whether anyone is talking today. If your product is reliability or activity, you are being measured on the wrong axis.
Alternatives for bot developers
Discordfinder. Monitored bots are pinged every five minutes from our monitoring server. The listing shows 30-day uptime, latency and the number of outages this week. A bot offline for 24 hours is hidden automatically, which means every bot a visitor sees was up recently. There are no votes. Discord's App Directory. Built into the client for verified apps. Great reach, strict requirements, and not indexable by search engines.
GitHub and your own docs. Open-source bots get a steady stream of installs from README traffic. Put the invite and a live status badge at the top.
Niche directories. Bot lists tied to a game or a community (for example a Minecraft or an anime community's own bot list) send fewer but far more qualified installs.
Alternatives for server owners
Servers are a secondary product on vote-based sites. The vote race becomes moderator work, and vote-locked perks annoy members. Short version: pick one liveness-based listing and one bump-based listing, keep both, stop running campaigns.
Can I use both?
Yes, and most developers should. Keep the Top.gg page for votes and reviews, and add a Discordfinder page for people who filter by uptime. There is no exclusivity anywhere, and the audiences overlap less than you would expect: vote-site traffic comes from inside Discord, directory traffic comes from search engines.
What to check on any bot list before you rely on it
- Does it show uptime measured by the site, or a number the developer typed in?
- Does it need your token? It never should.
- Are offline bots removed, or do they stay ranked by old votes?
- Do the top slots go to the highest bidder? Sponsored placement is fine if labelled.
