How to make a permanent Discord invite link (and why temporary ones kill your listings)

By default a Discord invite expires after seven days or a set number of uses. That is fine for inviting a friend and fatal for anything public: a directory listing, a bio link, a tweet. Here is the permanent version.

Desktop

1. Right-click the channel you want people to land in → Invite People.
2. Click Edit invite link at the bottom of the dialog.
3. Set Expire after to Never and Max number of uses to No limit.
4. Leave Grant temporary membership off.
5. Generate a New Link, copy it.

Mobile

Open the channel → tap the invite icon → Edit invite link → Never and No limit → Generate.

Vanity URLs

Servers with the Vanity URL perk (Level 3 boost or partner/verified) can set discord.gg/yourname. It is the best possible public link: memorable and permanent by design.

Three ways a "permanent" link still dies

• Someone deletes it. Server Settings → Invites lists every link; an eager moderator "cleaning up" can delete yours. Name the purpose in a pinned note.
• The channel is deleted. Invites are tied to a channel. Point public invites at a channel that will exist forever, such as #welcome.
• The creator leaves. Invites created by a member who later leaves may be revoked. Have the owner create the public one.

How directories handle broken invites
