Discord statistics 2026: the sourced numbers and what they mean for server owners

Discord user, server, revenue and biggest-server figures for 2026, each with its date and source, plus what the numbers mean if you run a server.

Most pages ranking for "Discord statistics 2026" repeat the same unsourced numbers: 750 million registered accounts, 32 million servers, 850 million messages a day. None of those has a traceable Discord source. This post collects only the figures Discord has published itself, or that a named outlet reported with attribution, each with its date, and then works out what they mean if you run a server.

How many people use Discord in 2026

Discord's own headline number has been "more than 200 million monthly active users" since early 2024, and the company was still using it at the end of 2025.

  • In March 2024, CEO Jason Citron told Bloomberg the platform had "over 200 million monthly active users globally" (TechSpot, 8 March 2024).
  • The press release naming Humam Sakhnini as CEO described Discord as "now serving more than 200 million monthly active users worldwide" (Discord press release, 23 April 2025).
  • Reuters, reporting the IPO filing on 6 January 2026, wrote that Discord "had more than 200 million monthly active users, according to a December statement" (Reuters via Yahoo Finance).

Daily active users are a newer disclosure and come from Discord's advertising page, which lists "90M+ Daily Active Users" labelled "Discord Internal Data, as of Q4 2025" (discord.com/ads). Taken at face value, roughly 45 per cent of monthly users open Discord on a given day, which is a high ratio for a chat app.

For scale, the founders' post from June 2020 gave "more than 100 million monthly active users" (Discord blog, 30 June 2020). The audience doubled between mid-2020 and early 2024 and has been reported as "200 million plus" ever since.

Time spent and what people do

Discord describes itself as a gaming company, and its published numbers follow that framing.

  • "2 billion hours playing games each month across thousands of titles" (Discord press release, April 2025). Later 2025 releases put it at "1.9 billion hours".
  • A year earlier the figure was "1.5 billion hours of gameplay across more than 60,000 titles every month" (Bloomberg, reported by TechSpot, March 2024).
  • "90%+ Play Video Games", from 2025 Discord user survey data, and "~40% Start a game within an hour", averaged across PC players in 2025 (discord.com/ads).

The last published conversation figure is old but still the only official one: "You spend 4 billion minutes in conversation daily across 6.7 million active servers" and "On a weekly basis, that's 26 billion server conversation minutes across 13.5 million active servers" (Discord blog, June 2020). Discord has not published a messages-per-day count since, so any such number you see elsewhere is an estimate.

How many Discord servers there are

There is no current official total. What Discord has said:

  • June 2020: 6.7 million servers active on a given day and 13.5 million active in a given week. Only half of the weekly-active servers were active on any single day.
  • Game communities specifically: "as of December 31, 2025, there were over 10,000 game communities on Discord, with more than 80 million members" (Discord blog, 12 March 2026). That works out at about 8,000 members per game community on average.

Discord's product thresholds show where it draws the line for "large". Server Insights are described for a Community Server "with more than 500 members" (Server Insights FAQ). Server Discovery requires "at least 1,000 members" and a server "at least 8 weeks old" (Enabling Server Discovery).

Revenue, Nitro and the IPO filing

Discord is private, so revenue figures come from press reporting rather than filings.

  • 2019 and 2020: The Wall Street Journal reported that Discord "brought in $130 million during 2020, an 188.9 per cent increase on the roughly $45 million that the company reported during 2019" (PocketGamer.biz, 9 March 2021).
  • 2023: Bloomberg reported that Discord "earned more than $600 million in revenue last year, more than four times its earnings in 2020" (TechSpot, March 2024).
  • IPO: "Chat platform Discord filed confidentially for an initial public offering" on 6 January 2026 (Reuters). A confidential filing keeps the prospectus private. We could not find a public S-1 for Discord on 21 September 2026, so there are no audited user or revenue figures yet, and any "the S-1 reveals" article you read before one appears is guesswork.

Nitro pricing is public. The Nitro page shows "$9.99 / MONTH" for Nitro and "$2.99 / MONTH" for Nitro Basic, with the note that "Cost varies depending on your country and plan" (discord.com/nitro, September 2026). Discord has never published a Nitro subscriber count.

Who uses Discord: age and region

Discord publishes no age or country breakdown. The best available proxy is third-party web traffic to discord.com, which measures browser visits rather than app sessions, so treat it as directional.

Similarweb's August 2026 estimate for discord.com: "The largest age group of visitors are 18 - 24 year olds", a gender split of 33.65 per cent female to 66.35 per cent male, and top countries United States 30.24 per cent, Philippines 3.9 per cent, United Kingdom 3.84 per cent, Canada 3.72 per cent and Brazil 3.63 per cent (Similarweb).

Two-thirds male, young, and less US-centric than most people assume: roughly seven in ten visits come from outside the United States. We found no verifiable mobile-versus-desktop split and have left it out.

The biggest Discord servers

Discord's engineering team wrote in October 2023 about "Midjourney, which has over 10 million members, of whom over 1 million are online" (Discord engineering blog, 25 October 2023). Statista's February 2026 ranking still names Midjourney as "the most popular community on Discord" by member count (Statista).

Member counts shown on Discordfinder listings on 21 September 2026:

  • Midjourney: 18,565,753 members, 493,112 online (listing)
  • Marvel Rivals: 4,469,373 members, 772,316 online (listing)
  • MINECRAFT: 4,021,827 members
  • VALORANT: 2,661,166 members
  • Genshin Impact Official: 2,599,533 members

Read the second line again. Marvel Rivals has a quarter of Midjourney's members and more people online at the moment we checked. Member count and activity are different things.

What the numbers mean for server owners

Large servers are rare, and the bar for "large" is lower than you think. Discord itself treats 500 members as the point where Insights become worth showing and 1,000 as the Discovery threshold. With 80 million members spread across more than 10,000 game communities, the average is about 8,000 members, and that average is dragged up by a handful of multi-million servers. A server with 300 engaged members is a normal, healthy Discord server, not a failure. We compared the trade-offs in small vs big Discord servers.

Activity beats member count. In 2020, only half of the servers active in a week were active on a given day. Marvel Rivals showing more people online than Midjourney with a quarter of the members is the same lesson in 2026. When you benchmark against other servers or look for ones to join, sort by messages and online count rather than total members, which is what our guide to finding active Discord servers walks through.

Your audience is mostly young, mostly male, and mostly outside the US. If your server runs in English only and schedules events for US evenings, you are planning around three visitors in ten. Set Primary Language in Server Settings → Community → Overview, and check when your members are actually online in Server Insights before you fix event times.

Gaming is still the centre of gravity. Discord's own survey data says more than 90 per cent of users play games and about 40 per cent start a game within an hour. Even a study or art server benefits from one channel or event that hooks into that habit, because that is the habit that brings people back daily.

Try it: browse all servers and sort by activity to see which communities are actually talking today.
